Electricity

Ganeida, this is for you!

Bob took a picture of an American style plug-in (power outlet) for you. It is here. This is at work, so it's not all pretty like some are in a house, but it's the basic idea.

Everyone also please see Taryn and Naysha's St. Patrick's Day pictures.

I looked, I saw ~ that's weird. However I will endevour to take a pic of one of ours for you. Basically the same only it comes with a switch & I have no idea how many volts it carries. Is this one weird conversation or what!

Weird and possibly dangerous. I try to buy even powerboards with switches. I suppose they must not worry about electrocution in the US.

A powersurge would kill a computer if you can't turn them off at the wall.

Nothing weird about a couple of girls chatting about electricity! Why would that be weird?? LOL

I'd say most Americans have a surge protector for their computer. (Is that the same as your powerboard?) And most of those have an on/off switch. But at that, in an electric storm, we just unplug things. It never occurred to us to turn off each switch.

Also, in England there are only 2 or 3 circuits for the whole house. (The little box in the closet - we call it a circuit breaker; you call it a fuse box.) In America there is usually a separate circuit for each room, plus individual ones for the major appliances.

Interesting differences.

Lol. We only have 3 circuits & it's not a little house. Here a circuit breaker does just that ~ breaks the circuit. It kicks in if your kids do something daft like stick a knife in the outlet ~ & yes, my boys tried this.

Um, I think surge protectors & powerboards are different ~ Kimba! Help?
