party time

There was a bit of a blow-up at church tonight when parties of the first part made a definitive statement, parties of the second part made a vague but pointedly contradictory statement and then was shocked and amazed when the first party took offense, while parties who were supposed to be of the first part showed themselves to be of the second part, and parties of the first part were accused of reacting inappropriately to a hypothetical situation rather than the actual one. Blood pressures were raised and mocked, apologies were tendered while ensuring that everyone knew the other party was actually in the wrong, and the whole party was loudly encouraged to move on while being prevented from doing so!

Obviously I'm not going into details, and I hope there is a trace of humor in my write-up, because, while nerve-wracking, the whole thing is so frustratingly silly when one steps back and looks at it. The worry is that innocent bystanders may have been offended or confused, but only time will tell if any damage was actually done.

Sometimes it's good to write it down, just for your own venting. :-)

Even if no one else has any idea what you're talking about.

I think if more people knew more about arguments, they'd have more fun with it and less strife, but alas, most people don't even realize what's going on in the heat of the moment...
