Several years ago I came up with this recipe for Chili, and we like it a lot so I thought I'd share.
Shari's Chili
2 lbs ground beef, browned and drained of fat
1 medium onion, chopped fine
1/2 to 1 cup chopped celery
1 bell pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
2 14-16 oz cans tomatoes, chopped, with liquid
8 oz can tomato sauce
3/4 cup beef broth
2 to 3 Tablespoons chili powder
1/2 to 1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 to 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
3 whole cloves
2 whole bay leaves
salt to taste
Mix all ingredients together in a crock pot. Cook several hours on low. Remove bay and cloves before serving.
Goes great with cornbread, or over Fritos, with cheese on top.

I made chili today; an adaptation of your recipe and my old standby "Chili for Four" with the addition of a little allspice. Mmmm good! :) And of course, cornbread. mums
Oh boy! I just got a crock pot and needed a good chili recipe. Can't wait to try it!
The main thing I noticed was no beans.
GOOD!
I thought I was the only one who liked chili without beans. :-)
Kambri, thanks for coming over. I hope you try (and like) the chili. This recipe has good flavor, not just HOT.
Wil, I've actually read that "authentic" Texan chili doesn't have beans in it. :-) I did add beans once, to try to "stretch" the meat, but no one liked it much. I have worked on my bean tolerance level, but it's still very low. :-)
I used the crock pot for the first time and made a pot roast. Mmm, mmm good! This weekend will be your chili. I've never understood the aversion to beans. I love 'em! Alas, Christian does not, so I'll try it without.
